How verification works

Verified means I went.

Every home here has been visited and checked by me in person. Every listing shows the date I checked it.
Vince

VinceThe only person who checks homes for Carta Homes.

01

Landlord identity checked (ID + KRA PIN)

I see the landlord's national ID and KRA PIN in person and match the name to the person I deal with.

02

Ownership or authority to let checked

I see the title, lease or a signed letter from the owner giving the agent or caretaker authority to let.

03

Site visit

I go inside the unit. I open the taps, test the switches and check the doors and windows.

04

Photos and video taken by Vince

I take every photo and video on the visit date. I never use photos from the landlord.

05

Water schedule confirmed

I ask the caretaker and two neighbours which days water comes, and check for a tank or borehole.

06

Power type and meter checked

I note prepaid or postpaid, check the meter belongs to the unit, and check for backup power.

07

Security checked

I check the gate, guards, lighting and CCTV, during the day and in the evening.

08

Internet providers available

I check which fibre providers already serve the building.

How often

I re-check every live home at least every 30 days and take it down the day it's let.

The paperwork

No home goes live until the landlord has signed a letting agreement with us. That keeps everyone accountable.

Our rule

Never pay anyone before you've seen the house. Not us, not a caretaker, not an "agent".

What we can't guarantee

  • That water or power never fails. We tell you the schedule and the backup we saw.
  • That nothing changes after our visit. Check it again at your viewing.
  • Your landlord's future behaviour. We help with paperwork that protects your deposit.

Found something wrong?

If a listing doesn't match what you saw, or someone asked you for money in our name, tell us. We act within one working day.

  • We pause the listing while we check.
  • We report fraud to the police with you.
